Hanne Jurmu

Hanne Jurmu (b. 1989) is a Helsinki based fashion designer and craftsman. Together with Anton Vartiainen she won both the special mention of the jury and the Chloè prize in Festival International de Mode et de Photographie in Hyères, France in 2016. She completed her BA in 2013 from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, where she is currently working on her master’s thesis work, to be completed in 2017. Her works have been featured in magazines like SSAW, Archetype Magazine, BON and Vogue Italy.

With her work, Jurmu tells stories about pieces of clothing that have become important to oneself. Her claim is that the value of clothes increases when they, or parts of them, have history i.e. are used. Crafts play a big role in her work. By making concrete objects she aims to find solutions for and raise conversation about sustainability and values. These objects are designed for people, not for any particular gender.
