Hanne Jurmu & Anton Vartiainen

Hanne Jurmu and Anton Vartiainen are Helsinki based fashion designers from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. They are nominated at the prestigious Festival International de Mode et de Photographie in Hyères, France in 2016 as a design duo. Hanne Jurmu has completed an internship at Louise Gray in London and worked as a design assistant at Siloa&Mook in Helsinki. Anton Vartiainen has worked in the University of the Arts and in the wardrobe department of the Theatre Academy. The design duo’s work has been featured in preeminent international titles including SSAW and Archetype Magazine. The aesthetic of the duo could be described as incoherent, as during their studies the two designers have become interested in a discourse with clothing: a role-play with one’s ideal self, even acting like a lunatic for a while, a vagrant in a timeless setting. They’ve recognised a need to redefine the language between humans and clothing, in order for the relationship to be equally respectful and loving. Through their work they search for ways to reinvent necessary processes for the contemporary era, and how to conceive sustainable thinking. They reach out into the world of the mystic, listen to the wisest magicians and jesters, suggesting awareness. The distinction between physical bodies and their environment is none. Taking care of everything, since all is one. folk-witch-on-the-path-and-the-moon-mother-magic.life
